INVITATION to MeetBike
---------------

European Conference on Bicycle Transport and Networking
and
Interdependencies of bicycle and public transport use

on 3rd/4th April 2008 in Dresden, Germany

This joint conference of the European Union, Intelligent Energy Europe program, and the German Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs will focus on the exchange and transfer of knowledge and experiences on bicycle networking of European cities and the particular needs of “cities in convergence regions”. The event will address practical questions and examples of bicycle promotion. Topics include bicycle planning and management, integration of bicycle aspects in authorities, regulation and financing, citizen’s involvement, bike as business, networking and research aspects. Special attention is given to the aspect, how bicycle and public transport promotion can work hand in hand in a joint effort to reduce automobile ridership. Also walking will be included in this alliance.

Interesting in this context is the change of travel behaviour: in many countries, habitualized behaviour turns into more co-modal, flexible urban travel patterns. This could be a good chance for rising ridership for bicycle and public transport. MeetBike tries to install a European network of municipalities for integrated bicycle promotion. The event in Dresden might be the initial point for a new urban bicycle movement initiated by European cities.
